Atrial Fibrillation (Common Type of Irregular Heartbeat)

Atrial fibrillation, or AF, is a specific type of arrhythmia where the upper chambers of the heart beat irregularly and very fast. Because of this, blood does not flow properly inside the heart.

This can lead to clot formation inside the heart. If a clot travels to the brain, it can cause a stroke. That is why AF is considered a serious condition.

Many people with AF feel palpitations, weakness, or breathlessness. Some people may not have symptoms and find out only during a check-up.

Treatment includes controlling heart rate, correcting rhythm, and preventing clots using blood thinners. Regular follow-up is very important in this condition.
