The groin artery (called the formal artery) is the artery of choice for cardiac catheterization because, it is just below the skin and can be easily palpated or felt by the hand and pierced. Besides, it is broad enough to accommodate catheters. These arteries usually don’t get damaged during catheterization.

Worldwide, almost 90% of angiography procedures are still done through the groin arteries.
